Early thoughts on the border problem

From 2018 by way of 2021.

April 1, 2018

In March of 2018 WRSA published an essay at this link: https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2018/03/30/a-huge-caravan-of-central-americans-is-headed-for-the-us-and-no-one-in-mexico-dares-to-stop-them/#comments . This is now a dead link, WRSA having been kicked off Wordpress but the original story can be found here still: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/adolfoflores/a-huge-caravan-of-central-americans-is-headed-for-the-us .

This was my reply to the essay at WRSA, but at that time comments had been closed so I will just file it here.

Dear Concerned American:

I accessed the links you provided in your WRSA article regarding the caravans of Central Americans. Here are some things I learned.

The main organizing group is Pueblos Sin Fronteras, or People Without Borders; their website1 tells us that for fifteen years it has reached out to migrants, providing them with humanitarian and organizational aid. This is not the first convoy of people coming north which they have helped.

The Buzzfeed article2 mentions the director of Pueblos Sin Fronteras, Irineo Mujica, and two organizers of the march: Rodrigo Abeja, and Alex Mensing. Looking for more details on those names, we find an article3 which tells us that Mensing is also a paralegal at the University of San Francisco's Immigration and Deportation Defense Law Clinic.4

See their website in the footnote below; I urge you to peruse the lists of full-time and adjunct faculty. These are people who are making a nice living at the U of SF, who are actively subverting American immigration law.

Pueblos Sin Fronteras is the strong hand in this enterprise, but the faculty of the USF Immigration and Deportation Defense Law Clinic is the brain. Alex Mensing may be styled as a paralegal but he or she is also very likely one of these folks’ graduate students, or a post-doc doing an internship. These are very smart and dedicated people, and they are sending their influence out into the world in the form of the students they reach.

Just a thought: The sweltering Hondurans moving northward are not the same as the swarm of fighting-age male migrants we saw coming out of the Levant into Europe. These are families, women and children in sneakers and flip-flops. The homes they leave seem to have become untenable for family life, or so they say; the countries of Central America are becoming failed states, almost as dangerous as Libya or Syria. Neither Mexican foreign policy nor US economic policy (NAFTA) seem inclined (or able) to alter or abolish the factors causing that.

This convoy will reach the US border by May 7th, 2018. We have a month to figure out what we want our elected representatives to direct the relevant government agencies to do. Here is their default:

“According to the U.S. and international law, border security agents are obligated to admit asylum seekers, review their cases and evaluate whether they have "credible fear" of returning to their home country .... U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesman Carlos Diaz said ..., "CBP has not changed any policies affecting asylum procedures," and that ... officers are required to grant any migrant who "expresses fear of being returned to his/her home country" an interview.” [from the Telesurtv article.]

[comments on this article at WRSA were closed as of March 31, 2018; this never got published.]

As of April 4th, 2018

This caravan may be getting broken up piecemeal now (https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-04-04/daily-dose-irony-mexico-deports-400-caravan-marchers-entering-country-illegally ) , but will it be the last?

As of January 2021:

In 2018 President Trump paid a personal visit to the president of Mexico, who became an ally and directed Mexican authorities to not allow migrant caravans free passage across Mexico. Caravans ceased during the remainder of Trump’s administration. Now, a new caravan heads north out of Honduras, now thwarted in Guatemala; with a new, sympathetic President Biden, this problem may well re-emerge. https://www.theepochtimes.com/migrants-increase-at-concerning-rate-on-southern-border_3667976.html

I note with interest that the full-time faculty at the University of San Francisco Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic (see footnote 4) has increased from perhaps a half dozen back in 2018 to over thirty today, with over 50 adjunct professors plus one visiting scholar.
